Anyone Could Win

2010 has been a great year for horseracing. Saturday’s 141st renewal of the Travers Stakes at Saratoga looks like it will be another much debated, highly contested match-up between some of the best horses around. 11 in total have entered, and the stakes are set. This is a complete toss up, with the level of competition being quite high.

One of the possible favorites is now Jim Dandy winner A Little Warm, one of seven 3-year-olds. The last horse to win the Travers without having run in the Kentucky Derby or Belmont was Coronado’s Quest in 1998. A Little Warm falls in this category. The reason A Little Warm has drawn attention is due to his past performances in the Jim Dandy, and the fact that he drew post number 5. This places him away from the main crush of horses that burst from the gates. He can avoid getting run down, missing a step and falling. This isn’t something that happens often, but it is for sure a risk. Falling in a horse race is never a good thing. There is no way you will win, and the chance of injury is great.
