Temple City And Gaines – A Dynamic Duo

The stakes were set, and the gate dropped. Temple City won the biggest race of his career in the Grade 3 Cougar II Handicap over 1 ½ miles. The fans had anticipated the event; everyone knew something great was going to happen. This win was merely the start of an ambitious plan of owner Wayne Hughes. Hughes plans to start Temple City in Saturday’s $1 million Pacific Classic. Though the horse seemed like an improbable candidate for such a race last year, he might just be perfect for the event this time around. Read the rest of this entry »

Blind Luck is a Devilishly Good Filly, Wins Alabama

By Michael Dempsey

The highly anticipated stretch duel between Devil May Care and Blind Luck really did not develop in Saturday’s $500,000 Betfair TVG Alabama (G1) at Saratoga, as Devil May Care faded to finish fourth while Blind Luck won for the ninth time in 13 career starts.

The Jerry Hollendorfer trainee instead had to battle again with Havre de Grace, holding off that filly to prevail by a neck.

Del Mar

Despite having a rough time recently, California Flag has just seen a rare victory. The horse has been a powerful contender in the races it has been in, and took an important victory last year. This was the last one it took aside from the race on Wednesday. The 2009 win in the Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint was that victory. Wednesday brought newfound hope, as California Flag beat all the competition at the $102,175 Green Flash Handicap at Del Mar. The 6-year-old gelding appeared in great form on the track. The Alabama is not a Two Horse Race

By Aaron Huber

While this year’s edition of the Alabama has already been declared a two horse race by most racing commentators, a closer look reveals a more competitive race than first meets the eye. The two best three year old fillies in the country, Blind Luck and Devil May Care, will be there along with four others looking to upset either one of them. The Alabama is a 1 ¼ mile race and most of these fillies have never been asked to run that far. Determining which horse has both the speed and the stamina to win will be the key to making a smart wager. Track Betting

Streaking at The Spa

By Joey Adams

Most sports have high-paid athletes linked to lucrative contracts, and they get paid whether or not they actually perform at a high level on the playing field. In sports like golf and horse racing there are no guaranteed contracts (outside of endorsement deals), and compensation is directly linked to performance. This brings up the importance of “streaks.” Trainers and jockeys go on streaks, and if the handicapper can identify the “hot streaks” he can quickly build the bankroll to carry him through the inevitable “cold streaks” that come with this game. Streaks can last days or weeks, and the handicapper who catches on early has an advantage. Horse Racing Betting
