THE ARC

It’s simply known as that. Let the Horse Whisperer mark your card for this Sunday’s Oct 3rd spectacle.

The weather is going to play a huge part in this mile and a half turf race. The ground is soft now with rain expected over the weekend, so a real test of stamina will face this field of Derby and Group winners.

When they come round the bottom turn clockwise…the crowd will erupt with 3 furlongs to go, the jocks will be riding for their lives. I will drift back to 1986 when I witnessed one of the greatest ARC fields ever assembled.

Cash Assmussen brother of Steve kicked for home on French favourite Hernando only to be collared by Pat Eddery on the electrifying Dancing Brave.

I have heard great whispers from the stable of WORKFORCE the English Derby winner, he has put in some nice pieces of work last week and has dropped in the betting, BUT a decision about his participation will be made today.

The ante post favourite BEHKABAD will lead the home based charge for the Aga Khan, he warmed up in a traditional ARC trial, the Prix Neil with a narrow win over PLANTEUR, who also runs.

YOUMZAIN has been second three times, can the weather be in his favour this final time?

Two horses stick out for me:

CAPE BLANCO, the Irish champion stakes winner over a mile and a quarter (stacks of stamina and will love the bog like conditions, 8/1 morning line).

At juicy odds of 33/1 I love the chances of MARINOUS trained by 4 time-winner as a jock Freddie Head. He is a very lightly raced 4 year old who won a group 2 easily last time out.

Here is the Kicker, this guy was headed for the Breeders’ but has been supplemented for 80,000 Euros to this race. That, Mon Amies is a tip in itself.

ALLEZ MARINOUS ALLEZ ALLEZ…….
